What was she doing? She should be in bed -- the hour was late; it was oh, so very late. She could hear her darling husband, Rudolfio Lyrre, in her head. Oh, it was quite strange how she heard the deceased King in her head, but nonetheless, that was what was happening.
'You need to be careful, Mahi. If they find out about them, it's over. You would no longer be the Laughing Queen -- or the Dowager Queen, you'd be a traitor to the crown.'
Well, he certainly knew how to upset her. She knew it was crazy to think she was actually talking to her beloved husband, but alas... how could she help but think it was him? She still looked young -- she was still desirable, but she would not own up to her string of lovers -- perhaps that was what the voice in her head was warning her about...
It could just be her own conscience speaking. She was depressed that her husband was gone, yes, but in all those years, she had met with men in secret -- usually other mermen, but there were a few other races twisted into her love life... A woman had needs. There were nights where the fiery-haired woman would disappear into the sea -- normally these were stormy nights -- and not be seen for two, or three days.
'Please, be careful.'
There was nothing else said, as the woman walked through the corridors and rooms, counting the steps she took. She often did this, usually when she was lost in thought, or missing her husband. Why had she never taken another? She had gotten many proposals in the past -- and now she was trying to protect her daughter from those same proposals she had overturned; she did not want the girl to marry because they needed a King -- she wanted the girl to marry because she wanted to marry, and loved the one in question.
She stopped in the doorway of the throne-room, pursing her lips. How she missed her throne -- but she knew that it was best to give it up, because she could not focus on anything other than her grief...
Shaking her head, the Dowager Queen moved again, slippered feet gentle against the stone floors. She was avoiding waking anyone, she had just returned from another of her... days at sea and did not wish to be asked questions.
Questions were bad for the woman, because she would lie through her teeth and be caught, she knew she would be caught, too. That must be why the voice in her head was whispering at her.

Laying there tonight was not for rest it seemed. As her mother had been up and walking about, Ezra had been awake. Struggling to gain even a winks worth of sleep. Tossing and turning, trashing her silken covers about like the ocean waves outside her window. It wasn't the heat, nor, was it hunger or thirst. Perhaps her mind was too busy weaving it's tales? The woman did not know, but the last straw was drawn. Not a moment longer would she tussle over such minor things. Tossing the blanket away from her form, bare feet kissed the stone floor. Her hand reaching up to gently run itself against the nape of her neck. Heavily a sigh would release from her throat as she draped a shawl over her shoulders.
Out of her room, through her corridors the young woman carried herself high. Fingers caressing the walls that she passed as Caspian eyes roved about the halls. It was hard to believe she had been brought here. Raised to become what she was now. However, her mother didn't show herself much these days. Not since her late husband had passed and the depression had caught the fire haired woman. Still, even though she had been here for a while now the woman sometimes couldn't help but be astounded. Perhaps for old times sake she should go find her mother. If she was even in the castle. Usually she never was anymore.
Or she could summon her instead of look. The dangers outside the castle weren't exactly something she welcomed. Stopping by her study the woman gave another sigh, rubbing her temple as she saw the mounds of documents that had to be approved. If she could shed set fire to them all. So much work to be done, but there was little time in the day. Moving on the woman made her way to the thrown room. Eyes glancing past it to the hall ways. If she woke anyone then so be it. Not as if they could say anything against it. "I need to travel to Vuoria...so much to do." She needed a drink. On that thought her gaze had caught glimpse of the fired curls of her adoptive mother. In all honesty she didn't know if she should be enlightened or downcast.
No matter, she would at least invite her. Raising a handy she gently went to touch her on the shoulder before walking at her side. "If you wish, you may join me for a drink." Her tone was calm, but still chilly as ever. "Only if you wish." Her voice would ring out as she made her way to the cellar. Choosing her favorite drink among the selection they carried in a goblet. Sitting down in a chair as she propped one leg over the other. Letting the wine touch her lips with a grin. If her mother chose to go about her business Ezra would not stop her. The woman never would get in the way of her mother's affairs. Not unless they jeopardized the kingdom and the likes. iv

There was silence on the end of the widowed woman, as she followed her daughter slowly. "Wine at this hour?" She chuckled, shaking her head gently. Aye, alcohol was often her lover.
She rested her chin against her hands as she dropped into a chair, propping her feet up on the table, staring at the ceiling for a bit... The fiery haired woman claimed a goblet, sipping the wine she knew so well.
"How is the Kingdom? Are you faring well?" She inquired, absently. There was a new storm brewing, and she could feel it in her bones -- the ocean calling her to return; to reclaim her tail and fins...
How she loved her secrets; but it bothered her -- as the voice made itself known -- to keep them. She groaned quietly and stared at the ceiling again. "If you ever need help, just ask."

The concept of ear splitting silence was not a stranger to the woman. Sometimes words did not need to be spoken and others it was almost a requirement to verbally react. As she had sat down, goblet gently within her grasp, almost fiddled within her slender fingers, a voice was finally heard. A sweet one, mixed with the usual sullen, but also amusement. Hints of laughter was enough to satisfy the young Queen, for now. Index circling the rim of her cup her gaze turned to look at the walls. " Of course. Is there no better time then when the sea is having a fit like an infant?" Her voice sharp in the beginning before it finally lulled to a much gentler demeanor. Sometimes the woman forgot she need not speak in such a way when addressing those that were to be close. Lips would slightly resemble a grin as her gaze once more fell on her mother. Hiding some of her annoyance to the woman setting her feet on the table. A pet-peeve of hers really. Seeing as it is where ones food is laid down and where books are put at rest. Pushing it aside the best she could, she was otherwise content. Observing her with interest of a low degree before she flailed back. Asking of the kingdoms welfare. Secretly Ezra knew it was because she was checking on her late husbands legacy. Making sure the gears in the clock still turned correctly and such. Giving a gentle laugh Ezra spoke up, hiding her true exhaustion. " You need not worry mother. The finances are doing well and I should have the military stand point back to full potential shortly. As far as economics go, I plan to be making a visit to the Kingdom Vuoria. They are of great interest to me currently and I'd like to see how things could be settled for the better. Nothing more to worry yourself over." Ezra already had the lists of what she needed to do planned in her head. Everything set in its place, ready to be addressed when it was read to be. Taking another drink of her wine she sat it's base against the cap of her knee. " I am fairing fine. How about yourself?" Genuinely she wanted to know. However, she left any deep meaning out of it in fear of chasing off the flighty woman. Raising her hand she pulled moisture from the air about them and fiddled the little amount of water between her fingers. The fluid almost seemingly like a jellatinous substance. Blobbing about in her palm before she dispersed it away. Returning it to its original form. Just as Mahi could sense the stir in whether, Ezra could too and it caused her to wonder how long it had been since she had turned her legs to her tail. If she could not remember then it had been too long she supposed. Hearing the chime of an exasperated groan followed by words, Ezra let a brow loft at the childish display. " Mother, you do help. Listening and giving opinion, as is an advisors tasks. You need not trouble yourself any further then that. Anything else is my burden to carry, in which I do not see this kingdom as. So, please, rest assured you are doing enough." Ezra did not wish to trouble the woman with anything meaningless. She had gone through enough. Mahi had done her services as a Queen and now it was Ezra's pedestal to bare. It only caused worry on both ends if the situation changed. Rubbing the bridge of her nose a deep breath was taken as she adjusted her foot. Examining it momentarily before speaking up. " Perhaps a dip is due..." Maybe then she could get some sleep. However, she did not exactly favor her mer form and she never had. Bone bleached, something completely different then normal. If it helped her sleep though then she would suck it up. iv
