A year had passed from her initial journey forth from Silverborough and in that time Nymara had learned a little about how unfit she was to survive on her own. Well, it really didn't come as any shock to her. After-all, she wasn't fit to survive in that town, why should it be any different on the road. But with the intensity of travel and some rather unfortunate encounters. Well, she'd certainly not had too pleasant a time.
Thankfully Svan had been there through the end portion of the journey. He'd been something like . . . well there really wasn't a word for it. If couriers had been cheaper, and willing to take messages to someone in another town, and then return a message from them to oneself, it kind of felt like that. They communicated across death, and Svan always had something to say that brightened Nymara's day. In a way he'd kept her from dying a few times, kept her trying at a number more and was always a little ray of optimism in the gloom.
Nyms wasn't sure how willing she was to deal with all this crap life inevitably threw at one. Still, she was here and a new section of her life was about to being, a section that wouldn't have been possible without Svan. The nature of bandits is . . . questionable. There is diversity like any other group, but the fact they make their living through less than legal lines said something about the group, most were willing to lower their morale standards. And a few were willing to destroy their moral compass all together. That said nothing about what they termed their 'needs' or wants in life though and the woman here, well, they looked a deal less than respectable. Many looked less than alive and Nymara wondered how mistreated they were.
She'd have turned around right then if it wasn't for the hulking figure in swathed cloak behind her. Even with him setting up a trade was going to be . . . precarious.

" Svan, I'm not sure how well this is going to go . . . " Nymara couldn't turn to meet his eyes, she knew he could tell her worsening disposition just by her voice, but her eyes would give too much away. To everyone else they were glassy mirrors but Svan, svan could tell what the minor distortion in the mirror meant.
"One step at a time Nymara, I don't like the crowd here anymore than you, perhaps this isn't the best course of action. But if you want to train your necromancy and healing, make some money for it, and acclimate yourself somewhere this is the place. We'll continue making inquires through the spiritual network but you know how . . . long it can take for some spirit carriers to get through to new faces. 'The Great Line' is long and bends in ways that are impossible in life. Once they make contact though, you'll always be able to find them again, provided you treat well with the spirits, and if they aren't brought to the living by another necromancer."
Nymara shivered. She didn't think of herself as a necromancer and she didn't want to be some death dancer, though, she'd already brought back Svan here, could she avoid what that implied? She didn't control Svan though, as if the layman would care about that, or even the priesthood. So here she was, and here she should probably stay.
" There are less despicable types out here though, yes? The smugglers? They can be almost as bad or worse when in a corner but people who become smugglers obviously have some scruples about just stealing? "
If Svan's face was visible it probably would have made a face. "Some, maybe, others sell stolen good and basically extort the thieves. It's . . . safer? As safe as a life of illicit profession can be, anyways. There are also purveyors of 'rare' materials."
Nymara sniffed. That wasn't quite what she wanted to hear right now.

They passed by a small group of women, suddenly all of them pulled a face at her. Two of them one of irritated haughtiness and the last some sad eyed stare. "Yah gonna be recongnized in there fo' whatcha are, poppet."
Nymara sighed and signaled Svan over to the women, it was time to put some of her new knowledge to effect. Some theories by a dead economist, theories he could never put into play and sounded insane to Nymara but needed trying none-the-less.
" Are any of you women ill? Wounded? Sores? I'm a healer. " Her clear disinterested voice carried some weight it seemed. Or maybe it was the fact she was a healer. Whatever the case the woman stopped chittering and gave the stringy girl a hard look.
"Wha? You? You ain't got 'nuf fat on you to string a bow with. Wha' chu saying."
Nymara sighed, " What does my weight have to do with my proficiency as a healer? " To that the woman seemed baffled and without a reply, "Well just goes to reason, dun'it? A good healer can get payed whatever they want, 'sepcialy these parts. Them hedge soldiers always getting cuts and things, ain't they an' they can' turn down no healer, no matter 'ow crazy." And from the woman's look, it was clear she thought Nymara a little mad now.
"Nonsense. One: Bandits could hold me hostage and make me heal their wounded, well, maybe not me but another healer no doubt. In which case I'd be killed if ever I made the slightest mistake with any of their comrades.
Two: What if I just arrived here and haven't had an opportunity to heal anyone, this is the truth as I'm here to setup a business. As you said I have no reason to lie about it a healer is a boon down here. Especially an honest healer. "
Another woman with an airy voice chimed in, "Ain't no honest healers down here, love."
" Feel free to disbelieve me, but I think you'll find it true. Third: Who's to say I'd use my money to procure food and food alone? I could save my money, I could use it for other alchemical purposes. I could even use them it to purchase my own mercenary army. "
"You are crazy." The skeptical woman returned. "But I have none of yah fancy education, so perhaps I'm just stupid." The woman turned her head away which only made Nymara sigh.
" I came over to offer you all free healing, if you needed it. "

The reaction she got in return was surprise and then suspicion. Nymara's hands went instantly to the air. " Look you don't have to accept, but if you do all I ask is you let people know there is a decent healer in town for a fair price. It won't be free, but it'll probably be better than some of the other charlatans around here and I gurantee my work. " With that she held up her right hand, indicating the ring through wrist and bone.
It took the women a moment to realize it was scar tissue. "Wha' you gotta be dumpin' us in the . . ." She glaced at Nymara's stern continence and coughed. "I dun' believe it. Reattaching a bloody han'. I saw you movin' it too. Can' be done."
"Gets better. " Nymara said smiling. "My hand was nothing but skeleton by the time I learned the technique. In theory I could use another's detached arm, but I wouldn't dare 'regrowing' one. I'd die from the effort, or have to spend weeks on it, just to keep maintaining the thing. " Nymara shook her head at them. " Look though, if you want a re-attaching as a demonstration it's going to cost you. That takes up way too much effort and energy to be a free. Wounds, diseases, sores. Fine. Reattaching limbs is something you have to pay for. For others it'll cost more, as I can see less people if I use up all my energy for one man's arm. " The women were just looking at Nymara like she was crazy, so she continued: "And, I can guarantee limbs work most the time, but that art isn't completely perfected. The more I practice the better I get but even mine. . . " She flexed her fingers. "Gives me problems at times. Not often, but it is better than having no hand at all. Soon it'll be the exact same as if I had my own hand back "
"Yah wanna experiment on us like lab rats." The airy voiced woman put in, in a sudden troubled voice.
Nymara shook her head and began turning away. " I'm only looking to improve my ability to help others, I'm sorry if you don't believe me but I haven't got time to argue with you. There are PLENTY of other people who need help, I'm sure, and they won't complain about a free look-over. " The skeptical woman put an arm on Nyms' shoulder. "Wait, wait . . . you're right and you're a female. Some men just don't care about some a' tha' female problems, an' some dont' care notin' for females at tall."
