[presto] [/presto] Corabelle "A mad dog and a bird of some kind." Corabelle stepped inside, grabbing her fur cloak to warm herself with. The animals floated behind her, as if they were sitting on an invisible table. She arched an eyebrow at the flames, holding her hands to them. "I have the power of telekinesis. It's been a burden and a curse." The flames danced in the reflection in her eyes.
"I was taken from the temple as a child, when the troglodytes surrounding the area heard of my power. It was unprecedented. They tried to raze the temple, they wanted me dead. But, some force inside of me awoke and struck them all dead or daft. The leader managed to escape with his life and sanity. I suppose that's why I became a great archer; if I see him anywhere, I won't shoot him, I'll follow him to the ends of the earth and bring him for judgement." Corabelle had a tear in her eye then she wiped it with the fur cape.
"Had I not been born into my position of High Priestess, I'd be a criminal and, most likely, fleeing my country. The nobility of my nation did nothing but watch. Now you understand my loathing for the nobility. They treated me as if I were a monster." Corabelle quietly said. Then she stood up, walking to the animals and pulled her arrows from them silently, tossing them aside. "They're too dull to use again."

"I see..." His gaze flickered over at the dancing flames, his expression set firm. When his eyes first set on the floating animals, it took him a while to register what she was doing and how she did it. Her calming words described the power of telekinesis. Before that, he would've thought that telekinesis was simply a virtuous gift from the gods, but he was proven wrong. The power of maneuvering objects with the will of one's mind seemed to be fascinating to him as a thief, though. Want to steal something? Just go on ahead and take it, he would think. The rogue never realized what the cost was for using the power, and how to achieve it.
And there she goes talking about this judgement again. How amusing how two strangers managed to get into this situation. Their mutual distrust of the royals seemed to bring them together, he supposed. "You're pretty lucky how you're born into the position of High Priestess, then."
Glancing upwards towards the stairway, he remembered the reason why he was actually here. To go hunting for missing jewelry left behind by other people - untouched for many years. Now that he thought about it, would be strange for him to suddenly disappear in front of Cora without telling her. Shrugging, he rose to his feet, and faced the stairs. "I'll be back for a moment." He began to climb, with an awkward feeling in his words.

[presto] [/presto] Corabelle "It is a pleasure to go through the things of others. Important things once to them. Now run down. Signs a house or building was once loved. If this is too presumptuous of me, please tell me. But, if it's a place to stay that you need, I will grant you access to the temple. I am able to provide absolution from any debts incurred through inheritance. The temple is a place of sanctuary. Very few people would dare enter without just cause. It's some thoughts to masticate on." Corabelle drank some cream from her crystal vial, using her cloak as a blanket, she rolled herself up and used her arms as pillows.
"I shall try to get some sleep." Corabelle had a good feeling he wouldn't try to take anything from him. She began to trust him and rely on him for the moral support of staying in the building until the storm passed. Secretly, for once in her life she found a male slightly attractive. "I never asked, who are you scouting for?" She asked then looked and saw he'd disappeared. Corabelle shrugged and rolled over, closer to the fire, to warm her throughout the evening.

He immediately left the room at her question. Telling her why he was scouting wasn't such a good idea, in his mind at least. It would make him look like a lowly scoundrel. (Well, he was one, anyways.) The warmth and comfort from the flames quickly disappeared as he stood on the second floor. It seemed that the flame's heat was unable to travel to the higher floors. He shivered.
It was difficult for him to see through the darkness. When he squinted his eyes, he could faintly make out the shapes of the tables and chairs, but that was all. Well, he guessed he had to work least he had. Going back down the stairs and making a torch from the fire seemed logical, but he didn't want to walk in and out without saying anything. Worst of all, she may suspect something. Sighing, he moved forwards. The rogue approached a table, his fingers searching for some drawer. He pulled out a drawer, frowning to see it empty. He continued to search the drawers, only encountering small bolts, pieces of junk, and the occasional coin or two. He pocketed the coins. It was better than nothing.
He traveled to the bottom floor, his gaze focusing on Corabelle. He stayed silent and took a seat a respectful distance away from her.

[presto] [/presto] Corabelle Corabelle sat up as a crash was heard outside and talking. She arched her eyebrow as she stared at the door. Her fingers wrapped tightly around her bow, her right hand reached for her quiver. "In the name of Solveig, I demand you tell me your name and business in this area."She shouted.
What sounded like talking was heard outside. "How many do you suppose there are? And what are they?" Corabelle asked Matthias. "It matters very little." Corabelle closed one eye as she stared intently at the door. As it opened slightly and a green hand was seen curled around the door, Corabelle let the arrow shoot through the air. The creature let out a hiss of pain. Corabelle glared to the door and pushed her hand forward, her telekinesis forcing the door shut.
A few moments passed, she was holding the door back with her powers while the creatures tried to get inside. "Go upstairs." She said to him. "I'll be up shortly." A large, war hammer hit the door, then an axe, beginning to slowly beat the door down. Corabelle pressed both of her hands forward as she was trying to hold it back as long as she could.
Her hands fell back to her bow, grabbing it and her quiver, she began to shoot the orcs as quickly as she could. "Oh, Cream forgive me." She said quietly, an arrow hitting the side of her horse. "They won't get you and I can't take you." She reached for the satchel and fumbled through the vials. She found one that seemed to glow green and tossed it into the fire, running up stairs. "It'll explode shortly!" She shouted and pulled on Matthias. "Hide." She said quietly. "My arrows will run out eventually." Corabelle was able to see extremely clearly in the dark of the room. She clink of her vials was heard as she was looking for a particular one.

The sudden thudding on the door caused him to spring onto his feet. In reaction, his fingers grasped on the hilt of his blade. His gaze flickered over at the door, stepping back as he saw the green hand. Must be some kind of creature with some kind of human features, he assumed. But that didn't matter much now, for he knew that all the creature wanted to do was to hurt the two of them. Matthias listened to Cora's orders, gritting his teeth. There was no way he was letting her fight those creatures alone. However he knew she was capable, far more capable with her archery than his.
Without another second wasted, he escalated the stairs. He ran into the darkness of the second floor, muttering several swears under his breath. Yes, he was safe here for now, but he couldn't see anything through the dark. Craning his neck, he maneuvered blindly through the dark, hands searching for some cover. Going out the windows seemed to be a choice, if you didn't mind standing out in a dust storm.
If his ally wasn't able to defeat the creatures, he had to find a way to escape the building. There must be some kind of hidden passageway of some sort... Most buildings usually had some escape route, at least that's what the thief thought.

[presto] [/presto] Corabelle Corabelle was looking around. "Blasted creatures, they multiple like the barbarians they are. Bloody troglodytes." She whispered. "Cut a hole in the floor boards!" She shouted to Matthias.
The creatures began to swarm the stairs. Corabelle used the last of her arrows, shooting them in very precise locations. "I'm out of arrows, but I have a great idea." She said. "I'm over here!" She shouted to the creatures to get them to follow her. "You rudimentary excuse for creatures! A high priestess would be great to have as a prisoner for your clan leader!" She continued to shout at them and pull them to her. When they seemed to be getting close to her, she raised a hand and thrust it forward. A large piece of furniture from behind her knocked several of them back.
Corabelle's hair began to float around her. Using the last of her powers, as they are powerful but not unlimited, she caused the collapse of the staircase. The creatures fell to the bottom level. "I hope you're not scared of fire or running like bats out of hell." She said and turned to Matthias to see if he'd cut the hole. "This," she said, holding a vial, "is extremely explosive and will burn the entire building to the ground. We can escape through the window, but most of my powers have been expended and I don't have any arrows. Any bright ideas?" She asked and held the vial out for him to grab and drop. made by ∆ ashycat of adoxography

He listened to her orders, executing them quickly. The wooden floor was already worn with age, and he assumed it should be a bit easier to remove a plank of wood. His fingers gripped onto the floorboard, and pulled it upwards with a grunt. The hole wasn't all too large, but it was enough for him. Yes, from here, the creatures would get a direct hit from right above. For a moment, he considered assisting Cora with battling the monsters, but he dismissed the idea once he saw her powers.
He gave a quizzical look at the vial, and took it from her hands. The man could use some of these for his 'businesses' back in the cities to help with escaping. Pausing, Matthias glanced outside the windows, and looked down. The two of them were quite high up. "Perhaps you can use a bit more of your telekinesis to lower either you or myself to the ground outside. The one whom is on the ground can catch who's last standing on the tower."

[presto] [/presto] Corabelle Corabelle arched her eyebrow as she walked to the window and looked below. "I think I could do that. But then, you'd have to catch me." She said, casually, then turned to look at the man. "When we're outside, what will we do? I could try calling for assistance..." She said, thinking aloud.
"Let's see, what do I have?" Corabelle asked, once again, to herself, but aloud. Corabelle ripped the curtain into two large pieces and handed one to Matthias. "For the dust storm, you'll become very ill if you breathe in the dust. The dust storm might be just the cover we need. In a few hours, my powers will have replenished and I'll..." Corabelle held her hand up and balled it to a fist, sneering. "I wonder if they know what it feels like to have your heart ripped from your body, still beating! Come, come, outside the window." Corabelle said, holding her hand out for Matthias to hold onto.
She worked hard to hold him before using her powers and floating him carefully to the ground. Corabelle was beginning to sweat on her forehead as she wiped it with her hand. "That never gets any easier... Ready to catch me?" Corabelle carefully crawled out the window and used the windowsill outside to hold herself up, then the windowsill broke, the piece of wood still in her hand as she fell backwards from the window to the ground. Her eyes gigantic as she sharply inhaled and closed her eyes.

"A bit of a gruesome mind you have there." Right, of all people living in this realm, the high priestess was thinking about ripping one's very beating heart from a body. Key word being 'priestess'. To him at least, it didn't seem that she was the kind to lead some sort of worship. Cora seemed a bit rude, he would think, but she was better than most nobles he greeted. And by greeted, he meant yelling an anathema in front of one before stealing a coin or two before running off. Those precious moments were always joyful. He took the curtain from her hands, pausing to dust off some particles before wrapping it around his mouth and nose tightly. He spun around, and tossed the vial towards the enemies.
When he was lowered to the ground, he shielded his eyes with his hands. The dust storm was far worse than he thought. No wonder this place was called the no mans' land. The very atmosphere rejects human life. He could feel his vision getting blurred, despite his attempts to cover his face. He turned in the direction of the tower at Cora's voice, eyes widening at the sight. The windowsill. "GODS - " Wow, he nearly forgot about her. Without another moment's waste, he darted forward, muttering some exotic swears under his breath.
Yes, he did manage to catch her, but the windowsill that was in her hand knocked him on the head, causing him to loose his footing. He dropped her only a foot or two off the ground, and fell over, clutching his head.

[presto] [/presto] Corabelle Corabelle blinked, lying on the ground. She quickly wrapped the cloth around her face so she could breathe. She was lost in thought briefly. "Jump on my back."
Corabelle knelt down so he could jump on her back and she could hold his legs. "I can run much faster than you." Corabelle was able to use her power to make her body almost weightless and was able to jump extreme distances, jump free tree branches or 'light foot' as she called it. She's preparing to light foot. Make her body and his excessively light and her feet would barely have to push the ground for them to travel long distances.
Corabelle barely waited for Matthias to grab ahold of her, in fact, she didn't. She grabbed one of his legs and one of his arms and hoped he'd figure out how to hold on while she's running. She took off. Running as quickly as she could, when a tree was in sight, Corabelle made a large jump, to the top of the tree. Corabelle stood on the tree branch, a large distance away from the creatures. "How are you doing? I think there's a cave up ahead we can stay in for a bit."
Corabelle jumped down, gliding a distance before falling to the ground, exhausted. There was a cave before them. What was in the cave was unknown. It could be anything from a dangerous creature to an aquifer. "I really, really need a nap or something..."

He'd barely gotten the hold of her shoulders when she sped off. When Cora said that she could run faster than him, she wasn't wrong. Not wrong at all. The other leg she wasn't holding onto flailed in the dust's wake. He didn't say anything. From the moment she first spoke to him, he vaguely knew he was going in for a ride. And a ride, he got.
More or less.
"Yeah, I'm fine." It was quite the contrary, actually. His words were full of sarcasm, and he wouldn't be surprised if she responded the same way. He glanced briefly over the caverns, muttering to himself. "I wager there's some monster in there." He released his grip of her shoulders, and attempted to stand on his two feet. A nauseating feeling overcame him, the feeling pressing him to vomit. But he didn't. Not now.
Silently, he moved forward, poking his head into the caves. "Rest if you want. I'll keep watch."

[presto] [/presto] Corabelle Laying up against the cave wall, yawning and suffering from extreme fatigue. "You know, I don't want to blatantly call you liar, but I find it suspicious you would be here by accident. Not even I want to be here, to be honest," Corabelle stopped talking and looked to the distance, then she readjusted her face mask.
"If it's money you need because you're in debt or you... simply need money. I can make it happen. I owe you my life, so I'm in your debt. Name your price and I can make it happen." Corabelle said, her eyes were closed as she drifted off to sleep. She's a very quiet sleeper. It almost seemed as if she was dead. Her chest barely raised and lowered. "Think about it, in morning, let me know." She said, the last thing she said until she fell asleep for the evening.
Corabelle awoke to hunger pangs after a few hours of sleep. She held her stomach and whispered, "Bloody Nora, I should have learned how to cook..."

The skies were still quite dark after she'd awoken from her slumber. The dust storm had already passed, which was good. But, the nights during the deserts were extremely cold, contrasted to the hot afternoons in the sun. The cold stung his skin. There was no source of heat anywhere, and there was no firewood to create another fire. He shifted slightly on the boulder he was sitting on. There wasn't much else to note. It seemed that they'd lost those creatures at the tower, and there was none to be seen. There were probably more of them, recalling Cora mentioning tribes earlier. Good thing none of them found where their location was.
His thoughts now lingered her words before she fell asleep. Matthias - a simple rogue, now in her debt? It was true that he needed some gold at the moment, but he wasn't living off crumbs and whatnot. He was rather content with his life, despite being a lowborn and alone. But nonetheless, he made note of that. Anything could happen. He wasn't all that surprised when she'd told him that she was a bit suspicious about his presence in these lands.
Shoulders slumped, Matthias continued staring blankly at the dark scenery.

[presto] [/presto] Corabelle Corabelle had left and returned moments later with a handful of berries. She popped a couple in her mouth. "Matthias!" She shouted. "I found some berries." She looked up at the dark sky... Drifted to thought for a few moments, then she began to laugh.
Some would have thought Corabelle had lost her plot, she was laughing herself to tears. "Ahhh, guess what I just thought of!" She said to Matthias, on the ground laughing, her face was turning red, she wiped the tears from her eyes. "It's like we're a married couple... In the middle of no where... And I just came home from work..." Corabelle blushed.
"It sounded more funny in my head," she said quietly. She looked to Matthias, "In a few hours, I'm sure I could do some more running and get us somewhere... Safer? Do you know of any small villages or anything around here? It's a long way back to the temple... We'd need to stop and rest before going on that journey."
