Alias: Eo (pronounced like E-O)
Gender: Female
Species: Dark Elf
Age: 45
Sexuality: Homoflexible (i.e. likes women about 98% of the time and rarely feels attracted to men)
Social Status: Middle Class
Kingdom they originated from: Ponterion
Occupation: Financial Adviser to the wealthy
Skills:
Night Vision: As a dark elf, this should come as no surprise. Eadyth is much more at home while in the dark, and can see in it almost as clearly as she can the day.
Invisibility: This is easiest for Eadyth to accomplish at night, but with a little more effort she can do it during the day too. Sometimes being able to just fade away is a nice when you need a break from the madness of the day, or to get yourself out of trouble.
Necromancer: Ah yes and then there is her ability to communicate with the dead. Eo mostly uses this to forecast the future, which comes in handy as a financial adviser. However, she has dabbled in resurrecting and controlling dead rats, just to prove to herself that she can.
Appearance:
Drawing an image of Eadyth would be like drawing the most normal dark elf you could think of, but just a slight bit shorter and with a lot less hair. Pale as the moon, with blood red irises that look to almost glow faintly, Eo is unlike the dark elves that her parents left behind in Vuoria in a few ways. For one, her dark hair is often kept cut at around shoulder length. Also, she is only 5'9, falling short (literally) of her parents benchmark of 5'11'' and 6'2''. Also, she dresses much more like a human mercenary or archer than an average dark elf, preferring to wear tunics and pants in exchange of typical formal ware such as corsets and dresses.
All of her simplified fashion preferences do not change the fact, however, that Eadyth exhibits the typical beauty of her race. High cheek bones and slender, pointed noses are a distinctive trait among all types of elves, Eo being no exception. The downside to this is that her cheeks can sometimes appear sunken, when she is sucking in air to hold her tongue or when she hasn't had the proper amount of sleep. Also dependent on sleep and physical health is the tinge of which her naturally pale skin has at any given time. For instance, if she has been harnessing large amounts of energy for necromancy or invisibility, it may appear more grey. On the other hand, her skin may be as white as snow right after a nap or a good meal.
Personality:
The first thing anyone should know about Eadyth is that she has many dimensions to her personality, and which ones you get access to directly correlates with her feelings toward you. First, if you don't know Eo very well, she could quite easily come off as curious, spending a lot of time watching and waiting, analyzing a person or a situation to the full extent before deciding whether to take action. To anyone who is easily self-conscious she can come off as cold and calculating. Also, Eadyth rarely is the first to start a conversation with a stranger, unless they really peak her interest.
With that being said, however, Eadyth by no means avoids social interaction. In fact, once someone has broken the (almost literal) ice between her and them, in a good way, they'll find a totally different person who likes to make jokes (usually sarcastic ones) and go out to nice dinners and/or grab a drink. If you break the ice with Eadyth in a negative manner, however, you can find it hard to repair the relationship as she's rather hard headed and stubborn. If you proceed to make things worse for whatever reason, you will find that you have earned yourself a fearsome foe, who doesn't take kindly to being challenged, and has quite the temper.
Eo's job is that of a financial adviser to the rich and powerful of Ponterion, which she got interested in because it requires her to be objective and analytical, both things we've already established that she is. Also, Eadyth loves to travel, eat, and drink, so the pay is a nice plus. Not to mention, being a necromancer gives her quite the advantage over her competition. She does have a general sense of fairness, though, so she keeps this fact hidden from clients and only presents her advice as a "recommendation", one that they can choose to take or refuse (the later of which usually ending badly for them, you can't really beat the advice given from the multitude of dead counselors.)
History:
Eadyth was born to Marren and Klaudia Naess, two dark elves who reigned from one of the original dark elf nations in Vuoria. They came to Ponterion for the same reason that many other dark and high elves did; to start a business and make more money than they ever could in their home state. In the case of Eo's parents, they were successful and found themselves settling in to the capital of Ponterion, Ihoris.
Eo is the third of five children, and as such was doomed to the life of living in the shadows of the other children. Quite literally, as she discovered early on that she was able to fade into nothingness whenever she no longer wanted to be stuck in a situation (her parents hated this, because it made her quite impossible to keep track of and discipline) when she was 15. Otherwise her childhood was pretty typical for a middle class dark elf. She faced the occasional prejudice, and had to deal with some nasty taunting from other children in school (especially the damn high elves, with their perfect skin and golden hair.) Eo learned to fight back, though, instead of taking it like some of the other dark elf children. Her parents received many letters chastising her behavior, one example being the time she punched Marigold Dolheim, a popular high elf, in the face and broke her nose telling Eadyth that her skin was see through and that she saw no brain in her skull.
Sibling politics were and still are very prevalent in Eadyth's life. Her eldest brother, Gunnar (warrior), was the favorite, her youngest sibling, Idunn (to love), the baby. Her second oldest sister, Erna (brisk, vigorous, hale), was the smartest, and her next youngest brother, Oiva (splendid) the strongest air elemntalist the family had seen in generations. Then there was Eadyth (wealth, fortune, war) who was left to her own means to find her place in the mix.
As most middle children do, Eadyth had to decide whether she would let this dilemma define what she did with her life (aka create a career or a reputation for herself based solely on what would make her parents proud) or throw caution to the wind and do what actually made her happy. Luckily for her, her dream job did end up being "acceptable" in the eyes of her parents, and something she actually enjoyed. Her favorite sibling, her younger brother, Oiva, is the only one she purposefully keeps in regular contact with and prefers to speak with the rest of her family during the customary family dinners and parties.
Eo discovered her third ability, necromancy, when she was 35 years old (which is considered a bit old to learn of a power, but considering dark elves long life spans, it's a bit more common.) That was when Eadyth got the idea to start her own financial consulting business, and it has since paid off (literally). She gets to spend time in the large homes found in the prominent neighborhoods throughout all of Ponterion, having one on one meetings with wealthy business people. Also, when she isn't there she can work from wherever she chooses, and Eo loves the freedom of that. Also, her job has opened her up to the opportunity to meet many influential people, and get in their good graces (which is not hard when you're making them a lot of money) and has racked up some favors in the past 10 years.
Roleplay Sample:
Eadyth huffed, crossing her arms in defiance. "What do you mean, 'when will you give us grand kids', mother?! You don't just go asking people that!" she said, exasperated. It had only been 15 minutes since Eo had walked through the door to her parents home, and her mother was already bugging her about this again. How many times had they had this conversation during family dinners? She knew that her parents were old fashioned, but she had explained to her mother many times now that this was not a topic that you just casually pester your daughter about. Especially when your daughter has brought female dates to family functions in the past.
Before her mother could even open her mouth to protest Eo held a hand up to her, the light dancing off of her pearly white skin. "You know, mother, I'll let you know if that's ever going to happen. In the mean time, can we please try to have a nice, civil dinner for once? Please?" the last word she she stressed the most, hoping that her mother would hear and understand the desperation she had to change the subject.
And they wonder why I don't visit more often, Eo thought, leaving her mother in the kitchen and going out to the terrace. The warm summer air felt wonderful on her skin as she leaned over the low stone wall. The sun was setting in the west and the home was blocking most of what sun was left from reaching her. Closing her eyes, Eadyth imagined that she was back in her flat, reading a book or out having dinner with a beautiful woman. Anything would have been better than this. After a few minutes, Eo opened her eyes she stood up straight once more, turning back toward the door that she exited from. "Alright," she said to herself, "let's get this over with."
